DO YOU NEED TO APPLY IN PERSON FOR YOUR NIE NUMBER?

The Spanish law states very clearly that the person must apply for the documents in person. However, the Spanish law also clearly states that a legalised, Spanish power-of-attorney document enables any individual to be represented by another for all legal purposes in Spain

Therefore through virtue of these combined laws, we are able to apply for a NIE number on your behalf without the need for you to be in Spain.

DO I NEED TO SEND PHOTOS FOR MY NIE NUMBER CARD?

NO. The NIE number is in fact not a card at all. Rather it is a sheet of A4 paper bearing your details (as outlined on your passport) as well as an official stamp from the National Police of Spain. This original document is an extremely important item of identification in Spain, even though it does not include any photo. Your passport and/or eventually your residence card used in conjunction with your NIE number is generally sufficient for most functions to do with government & taxation in Spain

IF THE NIE GETS LOST IN THE POST OR COURRIER?

In this very rare case, we would simply apply for a copy with the same power of attorney and the Passport copy.

APPLYING IN PERSON

Anyone can apply for their own NIE. You will lost a lot of time, because in Spain unfortunately, the physical process of application Works changes from one pólice station to the next.

APPLYING TROUGH THE SPANISH CONSULATE

Of course anyone can apply for the NIE trough the spanish consulate. But the problem is the time. About 3-12 weeks. This varies from one country to the next.

TEMPORARY NIE NUMBER

This is not posible. The NIE is the same NIE for the rest of your life. If you need the NIE for signing title deeds in Spain, as soon as we have submitted the application, we can send a stamped copy as proof that the NIE i son the way

NOTARY CHARGE FOR A Power of Attorney and APOSTILLE

POA costs vary from country to country:

In Ireland you can expect to pay:

Irish Notary Fees: 75-100 Euro

Apostille acquisition: 20-30 Euro per document

Sending of the documents to our office via standard registered post

10-20 euros

In Spain you can expect to to pay:

•    Notary Fees: 60 Euro

•    Apostille: 0 euros (not neccesary)

•    Sending of the documents to our office via standard registered post: 3-5 euros

POWER OF ATTORNEY

Is a document authorizing to represent or act on another person´s behalf for the stipulated tasks or responsabilities that are outlined within the POA itself. It needs to be legalized to be legally binding.

In the NIE application service, the powers granted are only for the purpose that is intended, therefore it is restricted to obtaining the Foreigners Identification number.

 THE HAGUE APOSTILLE STAMP (LEGALISATION)

The "Apostille" is needed whenever you intend to use documents from any country outside of Spain within Spain. This is because Spain is a member of the Hague Convention, which establishes a new, standardised form of Legalisation.

On October 5, 1961 several nations joined to create this simplified method of legalising documents through the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents.

ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE THE PROCEDURE:

After receiving your documents (legalized copy of Passport and legalized POA) the NIE number is issued within 2 weeks.

Before sending both the Passport and the POA they need to be notarized and legalized (The Hague Apostille). Most notaries offer both services, thus expediting the process up to 3 business days.

DO I HAVE OTHER EXPENSES BESIDES YOUR FEES?

Postage Costs may vary depending on the service you select: Post office 5€ / Courier 15-40€

Notary (POA) & Legalization (POA & Passport copy): from 50€ to 200€

HOW DOES THE NIE LOOK LIKE?

The NIE number does not look like an ID card, it is in fact, a sheet of A4 paper with your personal details along with an official Stamp from the Spanish National Police.

The original must be kept safe, as it is an extremely important identification and along with your Passport and residency card it can be used together for government and tax related matters.

IF YOUR NIE GETS LOST:

To apply for a duplicate NIE we need to follow the same process as the first NIE application. The details need to match the ones from the first application to avoid problems when issuing the NIE duplicate. (the police need to be sure that it is the same person who is applying for the duplicate).

NON EU CITIZENS. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

The applicant needs to send the notarized and legalized POA and legalized copy of the full Passport (all pages). As well as documents proving why you need a NIE number. If the NIE is needed for a property purchase, by showing a private purchase contract or similar will be enough. The draft of the POA will be sent to the applicant after payment has been made.
